Air
Pollution Control and Combustion Systems
Franklin Engineering integrates gas-cleaning systems for particulate,
metals, organics, acid gas, and NOx emissions control. Many of our
projects involve difficult applications such as submicron particulate,
volatile metals like mercury, or highly toxic organics such as dioxins/furans.
Our projects frequently begin with evaluation and troubleshooting
of existing air pollution collection and control systems. We determine
the need, feasibility and cost of system upgrades/retrofits to meet
new regulatory standards or increase capacity. Our services range
from preliminary engineering to detailed design, construction, and
start-up. We also develop and execute emissions test plans and specify
CEMS to meet regulatory requirements.
Franklin Engineering
designs waste and conventional fuel combustion systems. We retrofit
existing systems to improve throughput, on-stream time, and pollutant
removal efficiencies. Many of our projects involve evaluation of
system compliance with regulatory standards and development of innovative
operating or equipment modifications to meet the required standards.
Air Pollution
Control Systems:
- Wet inertial
impaction scrubbers for particulate and metals removal, including
flux force/condensation enhanced designs.
- Wet and dry
electrostatic collectors for particulate and metals.
- Fabric filter
collectors for particulate and metals.
- High-efficiency
filters for submicron particulate and mist.
- Wet absorbers
for acid gas removal - HCl/Cl2, SOx, other halogen acids.
- Dry lime,
lime slurry, and sodium carbonate slurry injection upstream of
fabric filters for acid gas removal.
- Adsorbent
based systems for dioxin/furan and mercury removal.
- Activated
carbon/solvent recovery systems for VOC removal.
Combustion and
Ancillary Systems:
- Rotary kiln,
fluid bed, and fixed/rotary hearth incinerators for solid, liquid,
and gaseous wastes.
- Various thermal
oxidizer designs for gaseous and liquid wastes.
- Conventional
coal-stoker, oil, and gas-fired boilers.
- Liquid waste
tank farm storage and blending operations.
- Containerized
and bulk solid waste staging, shredding, and feeding operations,
including ram and auger feed systems.
- Sludge and
direct burn feed systems for reactive/viscous wastes.
- Wet and dry
ash handling systems.
- Scrubber
water handling systems involving sodium or calcium-based neutralization
of acid gases.
